The GESOP & Culture – Round 2

By Gibson on Mar 26, 2014 4:08:00 AM

After being away from my blogging desk for the last several months doing what accountants do this time of year, I’m ready to get back on my keyboard to continue my mission of singing the praises of Employee Stock Ownership Plans in general, ours in particular.

Gibson’s employee stock ownership plan (the GESOP) definitely makes an impact on all of our employee-owners and our corporate culture. Culture is a tough thing to define – it’s kind of like when you find your soul mate, and you’re asked why you feel so strongly about that person. It’s often squishy and somewhat hard to label – but you know it when you feel it. Culture is the same way for me. I just know a positive culture when I see it – it just feels right.

GESOP Communication

When we first created the GESOP in late 2010, we intended to do a great job of communicating its benefits with all our employee-owners. Unfortunately, we got busy running the business, and frankly didn’t work on the communication of our GESOP. We got serious about communication in late 2012, and established our GESOP Communication Committee.

As the Trustee, I work directly with the committee to establish a plan for increasing everyone’s interest in the GESOP and their knowledge of the plan and how it works. When we established the committee, we strategically planned representation from the various areas of our business. We started meeting in early 2013, with our first task to establish a game plan for the year, culminating in a lot of activity in October -National ESOP Month.

Special Sauce = Engagement

By Gibson on Mar 27, 2013 9:00:00 AM

Our President & CEO, Tim Leman, recently wrote in his executive blog about the terrific news Gibson received a few weeks ago being named a Best Places to Work in Indiana firm. We had applied for this distinction twice before and were not successful either time. Why did we succeed this year when we had failed twice in the same endeavor?
