Today we’re sharing insight from guest blogger Sam Centellas, Executive Director of La Casa de Amistad. We hope you enjoy Sam’s wisdom and perspective.

I get asked a lot… what makes a good leader? What makes you successful? What is the ONE thing that I can do to be more successful? Everyone always seems willing to do just one easy thing, one try, and one chance to get the results they want.

Deer-Vehicle Accidents And Your Auto Insurance

By Gibson on Oct 3, 2016 6:30:00 AM

You don’t have to live in a rural area to be at risk for run-ins with deer. Many suburbs see their fair share of deer activity. And the fall brings a heightened risk. October through December is migration and mating season for deer. During this time the deer population is much more active and there is a significant increase in deer-vehicle accidents.

Our #DisasterReady Journey

By Gibson on Sep 26, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Thank you to everyone who has been following Gibson's #DisasterReady story. Our journey officially began in September 2014. Don't get me wrong, we had things in the works. In fact, I was part of Gibson's "original" disaster recovery team. We built a 3-inch three ring binder of vital information that we finished in April 2008. We proudly placed those binders on the shelves of about 10 of our people who were identified as key in the event of a disaster. And then they sat. They sat there through a gas leak that evacuated our main location (as well as multiple city blocks), through winter storms that shut down the roads, and through a power outage that took several blocks in South Bend down for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Power & Generator Checklist: Are You #DisasterReady?

By Gibson on Sep 21, 2016 6:30:00 AM

With power outages, don’t think if, think when.

We are all susceptible to power outages. In fact, Agility Recovery tells us that 70% of businesses will lose power sometime in the next 12 months. But are we prepared to respond and recover quickly from a disruption? Unfortunately most businesses are not.

By Gibson on Sep 16, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from guest blogger Eric Doden, CEO of Greater Fort Wayne Inc. We hope you enjoy Eric’s wisdom and perspective.

Do you inspire others? Are you passionate? Do you persevere through adversity? Are you grateful? Do you push yourself to failure in order to learn more? These are the questions I ask myself every day. These are the questions I ask those I am honored to lead as often as possible.

As our team at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation traveled the state of Indiana for two and a half years visiting all 92 counties, we had a front row seat to different kinds of leadership.

School Risk Management: Monitoring Student Social Networks

By Gibson on Sep 12, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Teenagers spend an average of nine hours each day “consuming” media, including social networking. The internet is a vast place, allowing students to say anything seemingly without consequences. This online activity often carries over into the physical world. In the past ten years, 9 out of 10 students who made online threats carried through with them—often at school.

So wouldn’t it make sense for schools to monitor students’ social media accounts? As with most things these days, the answer may not be as simple as you think. Is it ethical? Is it legal? Is it even effective? Those questions are beyond the scope of this blog. But we can address some foundational questions to further the conversation if your school is considering implementing a monitoring program.

Our Leadership Journey, On And Off The Court

By Gibson on Sep 2, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from Gibson guest bloggers Andrew Graman, Senior Client Manager and Andrew Schroeder, Assistant Controller. We hope you enjoy their wisdom and perspective!

Schroeder and Graman. Graman and Schroeder. But you can call us Andrew.

Although we have only been colleagues at Gibson since August 31, 2015, we have known each other for quite a while: August 20, 2009, to be exact. As residents of Burford Hall at Indiana State University, we immediately became known as “The Andrews” by the rest of the floor and many of our mutual friends, and still are to this day.
