Do you inspire others? Are you passionate? Do you persevere through adversity? Are you grateful? Do you push yourself to failure in order to learn more? These are the questions I ask myself every day. These are the questions I ask those I am honored to lead as often as possible.

As our team at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation traveled the state of Indiana for two and a half years visiting all 92 counties, we had a front row seat to different kinds of leadership.

School Risk Management: Monitoring Student Social Networks

By Gibson on Sep 12, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Teenagers spend an average of nine hours each day “consuming” media, including social networking. The internet is a vast place, allowing students to say anything seemingly without consequences. This online activity often carries over into the physical world. In the past ten years, 9 out of 10 students who made online threats carried through with them—often at school.

So wouldn’t it make sense for schools to monitor students’ social media accounts? As with most things these days, the answer may not be as simple as you think. Is it ethical? Is it legal? Is it even effective? Those questions are beyond the scope of this blog. But we can address some foundational questions to further the conversation if your school is considering implementing a monitoring program.

United We Stand

By Tim Leman on Sep 9, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Back in September 2001, my wife and I spent a weekend in New York City with our native New Yorker friends Jim and Noelle. Jim is from Long Island and Noelle from Queens. They took us to some of the major NYC landmarks including Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and a harbor boat ride. It was a foggy day on September 8th, but we were still able to take in the New York City skyline from the harbor, including the twin towers of the World Trade Center.

Our Leadership Journey, On And Off The Court

By Gibson on Sep 2, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from Gibson guest bloggers Andrew Graman, Senior Client Manager and Andrew Schroeder, Assistant Controller. We hope you enjoy their wisdom and perspective!

Schroeder and Graman. Graman and Schroeder. But you can call us Andrew.

Although we have only been colleagues at Gibson since August 31, 2015, we have known each other for quite a while: August 20, 2009, to be exact. As residents of Burford Hall at Indiana State University, we immediately became known as “The Andrews” by the rest of the floor and many of our mutual friends, and still are to this day.

By Gibson on Aug 29, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Manufacturers have long been concerned with protecting their businesses from supply chain disruption. But this risk can apply well beyond the manufacturing industry. Business continuity risks exist for any organization working with third-party vendors. Think of all the vendors you work with. Phone, internet, subcontractors, suppliers, etc. If one of them had their own significant business interruption, how would it impact you?

The Future Belongs To The Curious

By Katie Tryniecki on Aug 26, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Like any three year old, my niece Jules is a big fan of the question why?

Can you please share the book with your sister? Why?
Because she might enjoy it too. Why?
She likes a lot of the same things you like. Why?
…and it goes on…

Even “I love you, Jules,” has gotten a response of...Why?

Personal Risk Management: Earthquakes In The Midwest?

By Gibson on Aug 24, 2016 6:30:00 AM

When you hear the word earthquake, you likely think of the West Coast. But earthquake zones are not limited to coastal regions. In 2015, the most earthquakes actually occurred in Oklahoma, not California. FEMA reminds us that “all 50 states and 5 U.S. territories are at some risks for earthquakes.” And unlike hurricanes and tornadoes which tend to occur in specific seasons, earthquakes can happen at any time during the year.
