Workplace Safety: Entering & Exiting Equipment

By Gary Clark on Dec 5, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Are your workers safely entering and exiting vehicles or equipment? Especially in wet, snowy, or icy conditions, the process of entering or exiting can be quite dangerous. Workers can get injured when mounting and dismounting trucks, forklifts, heavy equipment, and aerial work platforms.

What is the safest method for entering and exiting a vehicle or equipment?

The recommend practice is the 3-point rule. This means always having at least three points of contact with the equipment - two hands & one foot or one hand & two feet. Following the 3-point rule will provide you with the most stability, and therefore reduce the risk of slips and falls.

Open Communication Can Guide You Through Rough Waters

By Gibson on Dec 2, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from guest blogger Mike Cahill, President & CEO of Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana. We hope you enjoy Mike’s wisdom and perspective.

Many years ago, as a young man, I learned an important lesson. At the time I did not appreciate it as much as I do today. I started at a fast-growing company at the age of 25 and moved up rapidly. As I moved up, many of my former colleagues who I socialized with and were my work peers became my direct reports. I was proud that ‘I did not change’ as my position changed. We were able to work with each other, talk openly with each other, and still keep our social lives unchanged…or so I thought.

You know the story. After being down three games to one in the 2016 World Series versus Cleveland, the Chicago Cubs force a Game 7. One hundred and eight years of disappointment and frustration hang in the balance. They’ve already blown a couple of leads during the contest, yet find themselves up 8 to 7 in the 10th inning, still in a position to win it all. They need one. More. Out.

Going In With Shades On

By Gibson on Nov 4, 2016 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from guest blogger Theresa Burns, Senior Account Manager at Gibson. We hope you enjoy Theresa’s wisdom and perspective.

As I approached the first session of Gibson’s Leadership Academy, a nine month leadership program, back in January, I was hopeful I’d get one or two useful lessons out of the experience. I thought it might be similar to some of the seminars you go to, where you hear a lot of information but only a little bit sticks. But boy was I wrong!

From group activities to one-on-one sessions with a leadership coach, I learned about myself and my colleagues. Here are a few of my greatest takeaways:
