Leading By Example

By Gibson on Jul 10, 2015 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from guest blogger John Phair, President and CEO of Holladay Properties. We hope you enjoy John’s wisdom and perspective.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tim Lemans’ new book rEvolution and also learned a little bit about Dan Gibson, founder of Gibson and father of one of my partners.

When Tim asked me to write a guest blog on leadership I readily accepted, thinking I’ve been leading for nearly twenty years and managing for nearly twice that long, how hard could it be to write a blog about it? It was more difficult to write about it than do it.

The Case For Financial Prequalification Of Contractors

By Bill Cerney on Jul 6, 2015 6:30:00 AM

The construction industry has done a good job of focusing on safety and quality. This mindset has been driven down to the smallest of contractors. They know safety and quality not only impact what work they can secure and for which owners and contractors they can work, but it also drives the cost of their insurance program. Prequalifying contractors based on their safety experience and program is the norm.

The prequalification process, however, should not be limited to safety. Financial prequalification should receive adequate attention as well.

End Of The Trail

By Tim Leman on Jun 26, 2015 6:30:00 AM

My oldest son and I were hiking recently in Sedona, Arizona. We were on portions of the Baldwin and Templeton Trails, adjacent to Oak Creek, eventually ascending to the amazing Cathedral Rock formation.

After working our way up and over the Mars-like terrain, we made it to the top. You can’t miss a simple engraved wooden sign bolted to a post that says: END OF TRAIL.

Customer Service: Are You The Gold Standard?

By Gibson on Jun 17, 2015 6:30:00 AM

Today we’re sharing insight from guest blogger Ron Turpin, Gibson’s Chief Financial Officer and Fort Wayne Market President. We hope you enjoy Ron’s perspective and wisdom.

My family and I recently traveled to Florida for a family vacation. One of our stops was to a nationally known entertainment venue. During our day there I noticed several things that made me question their focus on customer service. Dirty tables in dining venues, staff who did not greet guests as they arrived, lack of line maintenance management, and numerous other little small things. As I added all of these together it made me ask the question, “do they really want and value me as a client?”

By Gibson on Jun 15, 2015 6:30:00 AM

In the construction industry, it seems you are either asking someone to sign a contract or being asked to sign a contract daily. With so many contracts, and the complexity involved, it can often be difficult to accurately assess your risk exposures. Yet oversights and mistakes in this process can be extremely costly.
